Reviving a '59 440 ICD

Post by ak440 » Sat Sep 09, 2023 11:20 pm

So I have finally pulled my grandpa's old 440 out of the shed and decided to make it run. Well it starts and runs perfect, it's the under carriage that is the problem. I have read a lot of posts about replacing/ updating the undercarriage. After taking a look I can see that my chains need to be replaced (accouple of the links are worn so bad that they are partially broken. and the drive sprockets are very, very worn as well as the pins and bushings being warn through.) My question is, I have read that you can use 350 chain and weld 350 sprocket teeth on the 440. But are the rollers and front idler the same? or will I need to change these as well. I am sure I will have a lot more questions as I go forward but one step at a time. I would appreciate any input.
