440 tractor hyd filter

Need help to cross reference JD U10280U hydraulic filter , for a model 71 loader .
Tried napa no luck

Is that a replaceable filter element or is it a cleanable screen/mesh?

It is a cartridge type that looks like cork or gasket material for lack of better description.
Falling apart like a slinky .

You could join Yesterday's Tractors Forums and ask about this filter on their John Deere Forum. They have more wheel tractor-oriented folks there. One of them might have or be familiar with that loader and have a cross for the U10280 filter. John Deere dropped most of the letter suffixes years ago so U10280 is the current part number. When I check my dealer's inventory it shows as available to order at $101.35. Whether or not JD actually has any available would require getting your dealer to check.

Did the dealer do a system search to see if any other dealer might have a NOS one setting on the shelf? Beyond that you will have to see what you can mount in the suction line to the pump or in the return line from the valve to the reservoir. If you can get some measurements from the remains of the old one you might find a mesh screen element to adapt in place of the original element.

I may try to find a canister to replace , and also look at remote adaptor with screw on filter.
