fuel additive
Could someone please suggest a good additive to prevent modern fuel from clogging the pump? I'm not sure which of the ones I've tried is better.

Pump? What pump? These are gravity feed.
Makes me think you are talking about something else and not Early Model JD crawlers. That'd be OK, but now we need to know what you are talking about.
Like maybe you are talking about a Late Model diesel machine, maybe?
But, then, I haven't had or heard of any Late Model diesels having pump issues from lack of a fuel additive. I have heard of deteriorating rings in injector pumps producing 'mouse turds' but then no additive will prevent that. Only a new ring.

Along with what Stan posted.
What are you running the fuel in?
Where are you located?
Are you running a premium off-road or on-road diesel fuel or a bio-diesel blend? Or are you using heating fuel oil?
Is the fuel blended for the ambient temperatures?
Are you using 5-gallon cans, a transfer tank, or a bulk tank?
If a transfer or bulk tank is there a filter on the transfer pump?
If you are running clean diesel of the proper blend for the ambient temperatures, "plugging" the pump should not be an issue.

I would add that modern fuel is no more likely to plug a pump than fuel of 50 years ago. I am also going to assume you are talking about a 350 or later crawler, and a diesel as well. If you are having plugging issues of any sort, it is not a fault of the fuel unless you have contaminated fuel which again would exist with fuel of any generation.

Yes, I think the crawler in question is a 350 or a 450. And, I agree, the modern diesel fuel isn't a clogging issue any more than older fuel was. Crap in the tank, on the other hand..... I've seen plenty of that on various machines.
However, it did jog my memory. If we are talking about an Early crawler, there is that screen which is part of the input connector on the carb. Those have plugged up to some extent on me with oddball running as a result. And, we all tend to forget those screens are there, just inside the carb where the fuel line connects. And, being gravity feed means it becomes an issue just that much sooner.
So, I thought I'd add that just in case.....
