440 /w ripper

Post by RFYoung » Thu Jun 02, 2005 3:10 pm

I have just purchased a JD 440 IC with a ripper. How do you go aboout putting the ripper into and out of service?

Also, there is a small shift lever on the top left of the transmission, what is its function.
THANKS

You don't say which ripper it is, or how it is mounted, we need more info to answer you question.
Small shift lever is the PTO lever.

I don't know the different types. I am sending a picture. There are more picture available from different angles.

The ripper seem to be bolted to the tractor with sholder bolts

The lever arms are actuated by the bucket control when attached.

My question is how do you get from one to the other??[C:\Documents and Settings\Russell Young\Desktop\440 Ripper.jpg][/img]

Sorry for the confusion, I had to getr a URL. The previous message applies.

The ripper is hinged on sholder bolts. Activated by lever arms when attached.

Okay, that explains what it is.
While you are sitting on the seat, lift on one or the other of the arms that go to the ripper. One on them should not have pressure on it, so you can lift it up. Lift that arm up, and tilt the bucket until you can hook the big slot in the end of the arm onto the shouldered bolt on the big tilt arm. Once this is done, tilt the bucket down to lift the other arm off of it's stop and hook it up just like the other one.
When you roll the bucket back, it will push the ripper down in to the ground and you are ready to rock and roll. The scarifier depth can be varied somewhat by tilting the bucket to get the desired result.
By the way, nice looking crawler.

Bent-

What fun would it be to find a nice crawler. Seems every hour or two I spend working ours I know it'll be another hour working on it.. well maybe not that bad. I admitt we've ignored some problems for fear of the unknown and have since dove in head first. Hopefully I'll be clearing land againg before long.

Rumor is it will soon be used to just push fill dirt.. sounds more fun to me!

Nice looking loader though RFYoung! Great find!
