She's running but clutch doesn't do anything

Post by Norbert77 » Thu Apr 25, 2024 7:34 pm

After another day of wrenching and complete rewiring it started and stayed running enough to warm up. I think the 12 volt conversion used a regular coil and There is no ballast resistor, for some reason it cuts out and backfires. But then carb needs adjustment too.

Bigger problem, neither the brake or the clutch does anything. If starting in gear it moves so the clutch just doesn't disengage. Is there anything adjustable on it? Is it like a long clutch rod that maybe unhooked?

Update, pulled the engine and had a look. Release bearing tabs are worn but rest of mechanism looks okay and moves freely. Could the worn tabs be enough to not disengage clutch? Seems like this was done suddenly since there is zero clutch pressure... Or maybe it takes very little force?

Have you pulled the pressure plate off the flywheel to see if the clutch disc is rusted to the flywheel or pressure plate? Are all the clutch fingers in place and about the same height? Another possibility is some of the clutch material has broke off the disc and piled up between the flywheel and pressure plate. Mice been inside around the pressure plate?
