Hi,
Did the original model-B based Lindemann crawlers use steering clutches and brakes to steer - like the later Deere ones, or did they just use differential braking like some of the other brands (Terratrac, etc)?
I can't seem to locate any references on this point anywhere, and I'm curious.

There is little to nothing in print, but here goes. When the GPO Lindeman first came out, they were differential steer. This system did not work out very well, so they were converted to steering clutches or a sort.
The BO Lindeman was never built with differential steer, I think they learned their lesson. The BO uses a conventional steering clutch that is the same concept as the later crawlers. I have new brake bands, new steel discs, and new centers for the fiber discs on hand for them.
