Cannot get steeering shaft out

Post by Stretch » Sun Mar 11, 2007 3:36 pm

I have tried everything I know of, but the steering shaft will not come out. I beleive the shaft is frozen on the hub. :( Does anyone know if there might be a keeper somewhere on the shaft? I would appreciate any ideas.
JD 2010C serial number 56507.

Been a while, but I know there is a set screw that comes into play somehow. Double check your service manual.

The manual tells about a lock pin on models prior to 42000. My serial # 56504. I had double checked just in case and cannot see a lock pin.
I think the shaft is rusted on the clutch hub, but short of putting heat to the hub I cannot get this thing to move.
I am trying to do this with out pulling final. I pulled sprocket and final drive pinion as the book said and everything else no problems, but this shaft is a bugger.

2010 Steering clutch drive shaft removal

Stretch,
It's been several years, but if I remember correctly I just threaded a bolt into the end of the shaft and grabbed it with a pair of Vise-Grips attached to my slide hammer. A few taps and out it comes.
