JD 50 and 51 backhoe

Post by JD440ICD2006 » Sat Mar 17, 2007 7:17 am

I have seen numerous listings that showed the 50 or 51 backhoe mounted on a 440. It seems to always list a front attachment like a blade or loader bucket. I would like to hang a 50 or 51 on my 440ICD.
Is this a dangerous combination as far as safe operation? If so, why did JD offer and list them together??
1959 JD 440ICD w/64 Power Angle Tilt Blade
1959 JD 440ICD w/63 Manual Angle Blade
1959 JD 440IC w/602 Manual Angle Blade
1959 JD 730D W SE (many options)
1950 JD M S w/M-20 Mower
1952 JD M W
1955 FORD 640 (burns the most fuel)

Even with a blade on, you will need to hang counterweight on the front of the tractor to keep the front end on the ground. A local guy had one, and he had hug a couple hundred pounds under the front axle to try and hold it down, and this tractor had a loader on it.
The main reason though is the hoe mount is a part of the loader/dozer frame, so without one or the other, there is nothing to hook the hoe mounts to. Plus, you need the big hyd pump to run the hoe as well.
