1010 Loose Ring Gear

Post by GraderDan » Wed Jun 15, 2005 4:47 pm

Hey Lavoy, have finally isolated the problem with the 1010, when I took the inspection cover off over the ring gear, I could see the ring gear was out of place, the rivets have broken off that hold the gear to the hub.
Question- can the rivets be replace in place or does the hub and gear have to come out and taken to a JD dealer to have new one's put in.
I ordered a 1010 repair CD from the JD dealer we get our equipment from at work, but it won't be here for a week, how much of a job is it going to be to get at the hub and gear?
Thanks, Dan

Dan,
You are not going to like the answer, but the ring gear is hot riveted to the hub. Only way to do that is to remove the ring gear. Only way to remove the ring gear is to remove both final, and possible split the crawler at the front of the transmission.
Wish I had better news.
Lavoy
