JD350
Thought I'd share some stuff about getting my straight JD350 crawler up and running. I had the engine rebuilt by a pro, new uc., and did a lot of cosmetic stuff. Couldn't afford new steering disks so I cleaned up the old ones with brake cleaner and a random orbit sander. The adjuster gizmo was about out of threads so I cut the arms that go from the levers to the clutches, threaded the cut ends (1/2" nc) and put in a connecting nut/set screws. This gave me about another inch of adjustment. The engine quit after ten minutes--smoke and surging--I'd taken off the tank to work on the clutches and proceeded to bleed the system, no luck. Instead of hauling off the pump for a rebuild I checked the valve under the tank--no oil ???, drained the tank, pulled the valve and discovered a clot of sawdust had plugged it up...easy. I guess the point is sometimes I overlook the easy, most obvious solution because I assume that things have to be more complicated.
