2010 HEAD GASKET

When replacing a head gasket should I add any gasket maker or anything to the gasket? The JD manual for my 2010 ICD calls for some type of gasket sealer, is this needed?

Also what type adapter do I need for a compression tester, to test from the glow plug holes?

IF it is a metal faced gasket, I use a copper spray either Permatex or KB.
