1958 420c needs transmission gear

Post by retirednhappy » Wed May 23, 2007 8:53 am

Hi,
I have a crawler (Ser. # 113954) with broken teeth on a pinion gear. The dealer says the new part is no longer available so I'm looking for a used one. Anyone have transmission parts available? I love this little tractor and it is indispensible for my tree farm.
Thanks :?:

Are you looking for just the pinion shaft, or the ring and pinion set?
I should have a set in a transmission yet, slight chance I would have just the pinion.

I'll have to get back to you after I contact the dealer again.
Thanks for responding.

Hi Lavoy,
Apparently I just need the ring gear and matching pinion. The part number is M1631T. Let me know if you have it and give me a price.

Thanks,

Steve

Steve,
Double check your tooth count just to be safe, I had one just a couple of weeks ago that did not jive with the parts manual. When you get time, send me an e-mail, I don't always catch the posts here.

Hi Lavoy,
Did you get my email about the teeth? 42 teeth on the gear and 9 on the pinion. Both parts are still in the crawler so counting was a little difficult.

Sorry, I do not have that one, that is an odd combination.

Do you have any combination of parts that will work? An entire transmission?

The gear set you have does not appear in the parts books, but I know they made them, I had one just a few months ago. The normal gear set would be 7 and 32 I believe, I may have one of those sets on the shelf, or in a transmission.

I talked with the dealer. His only concern was about bolting the gear onto the ring gear carrier. Personally, I would think that would be a universal part. The ring gear carrier has a casting number 4063T with a JD part number AM3796T or AM1714T. Can you help?

That part is the same, it is the gear set that has been changed at one time in its life, I will see what I have.
