420 steering clutch TOB 'balls' - how to get them in...

Post by TI420 » Wed Jun 13, 2007 11:45 am

Hi Guys - I'm figuring this stuff out as I go... I figure Lavoy knows the answer here but wanted to post so others could benefit from the info in the future.

on my 420, I pulled the steering clutch TOB mechanism off one side because the tube is all messed up, and as I'm sure some of you know, those three steel balls fell out... My question is: What's the trick for getting them back up in there during re-assembly? All I can think of is some really heavy, sticky grease...

Thanks in advance for your tips! - Chuck :-)

Gun grease is all I use, plus I put some in the other sockets as well, so the balls have grease on both sides of them.

BTW - just as a follow-up to future searchers of the board, regular old grease worked well here and there were no issues just packing the balls and sockets with gun grease and installing - nothing even tried to fall out... - Chuck :-)
