5-speed shift pattern?

Post by CCWKen » Thu Jul 07, 2005 10:28 pm

Ok, I know it sounds dumb but what is the shift pattern on the 420c 5-speed. I've been using 1st with the reverser but now that I have all the loose bolts tightened and the engine purring, the thing wants to run! I've played with the shifter but all the gears seem to be pretty high when starting out. Is there that much separation between 1st and 2nd (and the other gears) ?

First is about .8MPH, 2nd is about 2.25MPH, third is about 2.75, fourth about 3.75, and fifth about 5.25, reverser is about the same as second.
Second and reverse are to the left, first and fifth are in the center, third and fourth are to the right.

Oh boy, do I feel dumb! Apperently I've been using 2nd all this time. :o

So the pattern looks like this?:

2...1...3
.....N....
R...5...4

I'm going to have to write that on the tower. It doesn't look like any pattern I've ever used. :?

4th is ahead, 3rd is back, but otherwise you have the idea.
