Shifter knob

Post by Ray III » Sat Oct 06, 2007 8:28 pm

I had a round shift knob on my 420 serial number 109xxx and I thought it was the wrong one because it was 3/8" thread and the stick was 5/16" and it needed electrical tape wrapped around to keep it on.

Bought one of the conical knobs with the shift pattern off eBay, apparently a copycat part, and it also has the threads too large to fit.

I looked in my parts book and there are only 2 part numbers, the round knob (older) and the conical one (newer). What's going on here? Are both knobs the wrong thread size, or was my stick originally 3/8" and got cut down to 5/16 for whatever ungodly reason?

Want to know because if the guy from eBay is selling an incorrect part I want to inform him of it. (I put it on with electrical tape anyways.) He lists the part number it replaces as M4338T.

Something is goofy. The round knobs are 3/8" fine thread, the conical knobs are 7/16" coarse thread. Someone may have modified your shifter at some time.

Thanks Lavoy, I know it was a stupid question but I was losing sleep over it. :)
