Yes I know this is not in the correct category, but I am posting it here in the hopes more people will see it.
I have been getting just hammered lately with spammers and such trying to get registered on the board. SOOOOOO, to reiterate what has been posted elsewhere on here. IF you do not put some obviously identifying info in you personal profile, or contact me with the login name you registered under immediately upon registering, you will be deleted, PERIOD. If you have been deleted by mistake, I apologize, but I simoly do not have the time to try and e-mail everyone that does not adhere to the registration rules to see if they are legitimate, I waste enough time every day just deleting spammers.

I hate to break it to you but I'm not really a 51 year old white guy living in West Bend, WI but am, in fact, a 14 year old filipino living in a cardboard box in the slums of Manila who has been spinning an elaborate ruse for the last 15 months about restoring a 1010CA crawler. I mean really, what sort of idiot would actually buy a 1010CA and try to restore it? It can't possibly be true.
I'm just biding my time waiting for the moment to leap out of character and start posting Viagra ads in all the posts and sending Stan his winning lottery notifications while trying to set him up with my sister.
Or I'm an idiot who bought a 1010 crawler. Just goes to show you that you can't be too careful.

Hmmm. You may have a point there. The spammers *are* probably more 'normal' than we are! I mean, who'd want to deal with tracks when they could be using wheels!!

Yeah! The neighbor asked me if I could use my loader to move a pile of scrap wood from a remodeling job away from his house to a safer area for eventual burning (as soon as we get enough rain to wet things down, that is).
I said 'no way' as the loader is on a wheel tractor., and a new one to boot. I don't relish nail holes in my tires, and you know that there were plenty of those to be found.
I did go over with the 420c, though. I didn't have to worry about nail holes in the track pads!

I really like how clean this site is. I hate how marketing has gotten these days. Actually the reason I haven't posted in a few weeks is my computer got attacked by spyware on October 23. Those spammers must have tried me after Lavoy got after them with the big stick. Got it mostly cleaned up, but I still get a popup ad every 5 minutes that I can't figure out for the life of me. Bastids...

Hey guys, guess what? Computers require maintenance too!
1. Clean out your temporary internet files and subfolders. In IE it's Tools > Internet Options > General > Delete Cookies, Temporary Files and subfolders, History buttons.
2. "Defrag" your hard disk (in the computer, not in your spine, that's another issue about tissue) Go to Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter.
3. Better yet, use Mozilla Firefox for a browser. I've found virus writers are less interested in it.
4. Buy Norton Systemworks and install it for anti-virus and other illnesses that come your way every minute on the 'net. Consumer Reports recently recommended Trend Micro PC-cillin internet package as being a great value instead of Norton. I haven't investigated it.
5. My great thanks and sincere gratitude for Lavoy's generosity with his knowledge and talent and, as he indicates above, TIME! This site and a number of you guys have been so helpful to me in getting to know my 1010's. Such marvelous reference sources didn't exist when I started out in the the restoration biz in the sixties. It's a luxury we should not take for granted so keep your machines maintained and do exactly as Lavoy says to do.

That is what I thought it was. I tried disabling everything and still the popups. I upgraded to Ad-Aware 2007 to be sure it was completely up to date, it found almost 400 problems (damn!) but after fixing them I STILL got popups. I am just using Firefox for now until I feel like removing and reinstalling Internet Explorer. Very true that you will not get hassled as much with Firefox but I don't like the interface as much.wwattson wrote:Your pop-up problem is probably add-ons added to your Internet Explorer.
