420c oil leak

Post by coonhunter » Sat Oct 27, 2007 7:38 am

Hi, I just bought a 420 crawler without a reverser and have discovered a oil leak around the brake shaft going thru the reverser housing. The leak showed up after I drove the crawler on a steep bank.I have a manual and am in the process of getting a parts catalog. My first question, Should there be oil in the reverser housing since the is no reverser? My next question is there a way to stop the leak? I hate to split the tractor just for the oil leak. I have thought about a rotary seal I can split and put on the outside of the housing. Also there is a whine in the drive shaft that stops when I push in on the clutch how concerned should I be about the whine?
Thanks

I know it sucks, but I think I would split it and put the seal in. Especially with the whine, it could be an input shaft bearing going bad.
