I'm in the process of putting my Detroit diesel back together and as shown in the two photos below there is a bolt that holds a round spacer that is mounted right next to the oil gallery pressure tap. At first I thought a previous owner might have stuck it on there for some reason but then I got to thinking maybe JD put it there to protect the oil pressure sensors from damage.
Could one of of you 440ICD owners check yours to see if the same thing is installed?
Thanks,
Brad

That was strange, the photos were on the website yesterday and for some reason disappeared. I just revised the original post a little and uploaded the pictures with new names. They seem to be showing up right now.jdaxle wrote:brad i have one that im waiting to start on but i cant open you attachment to see what you are talking about . by the way thanks for doing the cd for me. i bid on a 831 loader parts manual on ebay a few weeks ago , was going to let you scan it but it ended at a bad time for me.
I've also managed to come up with a few more manuals that I will be including on the CD. One is the 53 series operators manual from Detroit Diesel and the other is the John Deere parts list for a model 63 dozer blade assembly. I've got them ready to go and will likely offer them for download to anyone that has previously purchased the 440 CD from me. However first I have to deal with the owner of 141 for long term service of our website. Hopefully soon.
I'd also like to find a 1010 parts manual that I could scan in so I could include that as well since the 1010 shares a lot of parts in common with the 440 crawlers.
Let me know if you can view the attachments now.

Brad,
I finally thought to look at my 2 440ICDs to see what was going on and I came to the conclusion that the bolt and spacer is supposed to hold one corner of the steel plate that protects the governor and mounts the oil filter. My newer one, both age wise and time with me, has the bolt and spacer but no plate. It has three oil lines that screw in the block in that area and go off to the oil pressure gauge and Hobbs meter or something. This one has a fore and aft throttle lever, possible s/n 460196. My older one has the plate but not the bolt and spacer. It has a couple of electric senders or switches mounted in this area of the block. It is s/n 449895 and has the sideways throttle lever.
If you have a parts list (LOL) for the ICD # PC-609 look at p. 10-10, the plate in question is item 4 and the bolt and spacer is items 24, 25.
If I can be of further help or make more guesses let me know.
Bryce
