Is there some sort of button that goes on the end of the shifter (where it contacts the shift forks) because there is nothing on mine and the shifter is so sloppy it spins in the housing and goes all over the place. Also can shift forks be welded and built back up and ground to spec or is there is a place that makes new ones (or am I just better off trying to find a good used one)? As always thanks for the help.

Should be a "ball" of sorts on the end of the shifter. Forks can probably be bronzed up and ground down, I have seen it done before.
I have shifter and trans top covers on hand, if you just want to replace it.
