Gauge Color
What is the correct color of gauge faces for a 1950 MC. Currently the gauges on it are black, but I am looking to put new ones on and wasn't sure which color is correct.

Gauge Color
I bought a white face gauge for my 49 MC and it pegged High oil pressure. I checked it with a gauge and the oil pressure was exactly correct at 30. When I called the evil vendor, they told me that all white face John Deere logo gauges were made to measure low pressure of older tractors and when used on an M would always be pegged. He offered to give me my money back, but said they did not know of any other correct white face gauge. Any opinions on this?

All of the white face gauges that I know of are designed for the Waterloo built tractors which likely run less oil pressure. As far as I am concerned, none of the white face gauges match the script of the original Dubuque gauges either. If you have the original gauges for a pattern, Jerry at Evergreen Restorations can probably put the correct face on a guage that will read the correct pressure.

Hi,
My 1950 'M' wheel tractor still has a white-faced oil pressure gauge that I believe it came with, which reads correctly without pegging.
It also still has the original white-faced ammeter, too. The water temp gauge is an auto parts store replacement since the original's line got parted when the poor old thing was busted in half and the hood wound up being yanked off as the whole front-end parted company.
One of these days, I'll get a reproduction temp gauge that looks proper. The auto-parts store gauge is a 'temporary measure' that's been in place for the last 20 years.
Has it really been that long since dad and I put the poor old thing back together?? Doesn't seem like it but we did it in 1987.....Man!
