3pt Lift Cylinder Shaft Straightening

Post by wwattson » Thu Dec 13, 2007 9:38 am

Anybody had any experience straightening bent shafts on hydraulic cylinders. I would say that the two I've got would look to be reasonable candidates to be straightened as there is no "sharpness" to the bents. They would actually be more curved than bent.

Figure they got bent from the rockshaft being partly frozen. Hard to say on a 46 year old crawler. Thanks for any help.

Straightened lots of them over the years just in a hydraulic press.Be sure to place alum. or brass blocks under and between the ram and the shaft.Place the blocks apart well if they have a curve to them, you will surprized how little pressure it takes to bend them back, just be carefull not to damage the chrome. If they are to bad to straighten any machine shop can make you a new one up.
