hydraulic pump question
hydraulic pump question
I was wondering how to go about finding the correct pump.I see lots of pumps that are rated 3000 max rpm and 30-40gpm and 3000- 3650 psi, what would happen if I used one of these pumps? What I think I need is 2000 psi and 20gpm ,would these work at the lower rpm of 1500-1800 or do they need the 3000 rpm to work properly? The pump I have now puts out 1500 psi but I'm putting on a hoe and the recommended rating for it is 2000lbs 20 gpm.Its not like I need all the power available but would be nice to have a little more, and then comes the breakage!!

Keep in mind, that if you up the system pressure by 500 PSI, your loader will be overpressure by 30% or more. You will be able to lift so much more it will be easy to break things, the cylinders were never designed to run at that pressure, some fitting may not be rated for that pressure as well. I think there is a lot of potential risk involved from the loader standpoint. If you do this, you will need to double check the bypass on the loader and make sure it is still set at 1500PSI. Then you will need a seperate dedicated line going to the hoe that does not get it's oil from the loader valve.
That being said, any good pump seller should be able to give you the output of their pump at whatever RPM you are looking at.

yes true there is enough welds on the loader from yrs of abuse and 500psi more will create problems again.I rebuilt all the cylinders using polypaks instead of the old leather type seals so I'm not to worried about the cylinders, rest of the loader might not take that much more.I did replace the spring in the relief valve and checked the pressure ,its a little under 1500 now and will lift more than I want. What I was thinking though is like you say run a separate line to the hoe with 2000psi.Off the topic but we have at least 3' of snow here now on the ground and was playing in it tonight with the loader crawler, incredible what they will plow through sure beats a 2 wheel drive tractor for moving snowbanks.Anyone that has never used a crawler in the snow has no idea what they are missing out on!!
