mc restoration
I'm compiling parts for my mc and I need a silver muffler does anyone know of a manufacturer that produces one or were the factory ones just painted? Also need to get the paper belt pulley rebuilt. Any ideas? Chalk my name up for one mc owner as well on your poll. Thanks

Lavoy has you covered on the muffler issue.
The paper pulley can be rebuilt by the following company. Not knowing where you are located, if this one if not close to you, you may find one closer than TN.

The muffler should be silver but all of them come painted black. See JR Hobbs book "The Little Giants" if there is any doubt on the correct color.
I have used the Dulicolor High Temp and it's OK but much perfer the VHT Flameproof from Speco. It seems to hold up better for me. It's rated at 1500 deg. - the Duplicolor is 1200 deg. I get VHT at the local auto parts store.
The key to either is in the prep. It must be clean. Lavoy is correct you can burn the black off but it will quickly rust if not painted immediately and rust prevents a good finish. I find for me, it's easier to strip mine of the factory black and then apply the silver per the manufacturers directions. The curring is critical and you can install it on the crawler to heat it for the curing.
I've experimented with this muffler paint for several years. This is just what what I've found that works for me. My auto resto friend swears by this stuff:

It's Hirsch High Temp Exhaust paint. It's rated at 2000 deg. He claims it's far superior to VHT and lasts forever. I will try this on my next muffler replacement.
