My 420C is seeping oil around head

Post by jdman123 » Sat Dec 29, 2007 10:58 am

I was wondering if anyone out their has had their crawler do this. I rencently put a new head on my 420C about 4 hours ago and I ran it over the holidays pushing brush pretty hard and I noticed that the temp was 175 and the oil pressure was 25PSI but their was some oil seeping around the head. I cut the machine off and checked radiator(full) and engine oil (full and clean). The oil was bubbling really small bubbles at the head gasket. I don't think it is blown. Could it be that the head needs to be retorqued or what?

Thanks,
Shawn

Shawn,
I would try to re-torque the head. Did you lubricate the head bolt threads with engine oil? If not that could affect the torque.
Follow the torque pattern loosen the first bolt, remove, lubricate the threads lightly withe engine oil (letting excess drip off) and then reinstall and torque to proper value. Then do the same for the next bolt in torque pattern until you have them all done. Just my thoughts on how I would try to correct.

Thanks for the tip I will Try that to see if that works. The engine does not miss a beat while running, but I need to address it before something happens.

I have had zero luck getting head gaskets to seal unless coated in something like Copper Kote, or Copper Spray a Gasket, even on planed heads and blocks, that would be my guess.
