HAPPY NEW YEAR! Starter Drive Issue

Post by lizrad999 » Tue Jan 01, 2008 9:59 am

Well, I washed off the new machine to get a better idea of what all I need to do to it, and now the starter wont crank over. I thought the battery was dead so I put a booster pack on it and still nothing. Let it dry out for 24hrs and tried again. Still nothing.....tested the solenoid and it is working fine. Gen tly rapped on starter with hammer and presto, it cranked over....once.
Made sure all connections were tight tried the rapping thing again but no joy. Pulled the starter out and put it in the vice...add power and she spins!
I started tinkering with the screw type starter drive and found the piece on the inside of the spring to be shattered. :(
NAPA has the springs, so I would think they have the other part as well.
I can order the whole drive assembly form ebay, but I would really like to be able to move the machine today.
The Delco Remy number on the starter is 1107165. NAPA does have a Wilson starter for it, but could not find a part number for the starter drive.

Does anyone know of any part numbers that I can give to NAPA to cross ref?

Thanks!

Here are some different part numbers for that drive. It will depend on the tooth count. This particular starter was either 10 or 11 tooth drive.
Prestolite 59-10
Ford 8HA-11350A
Case A25648 or A40454
Caterpillar 7N6068 or 9B8901
You can also call a local starter rebuilder and tell him you want a WAI part number 4-1216 specify tooth count. He should have that part or can get it the next day. WAI is a supplier to the rebuild industry. I use them alot.
Hope this helps.

I hope the info helps you. If worse comes to worse email me and I can probably get it for you. I am pretty sure WAI has a warehouse in Memphis. I could have the item set out for will call for you.

Stretch,
I managed to weld the part back together. (Turned out to be steel) This buys me enough time to order one in if they don't have it in stock.

Thanks!
