JD crawler
JD crawler
I found a JD crawler in a blackberry thicket, it looks something like my 420 but the hood is more square and the #'s are gone. It has a lot more levers and grease tensioner for the tracks and a hydraulic blade adjuster. I was wondering what it is.

Could be a 440. They're 'the same thing, only different' vs. the 420. They went to a weldment on the nose, as opposed to a tin radiator shroud and seperate brush guard. They also had the dash from the 430, and used a flatter hood. This would make it appear like a 420, 2-cyl engine and all, yet also make it look different - more industrial, which is exactly what the 440 series was intended to be used for.
It might also be the later 1010, which carried the same styling as the 440. The difference here being that the 1010 had a 4-cyl engine. Both the 440 and 1010 could be had with hydraulic track tension adjusters.
