1010 restoration steering clutch Question?

I have started tearing my 1010 apart for restoration, working on pulling the motor now, which needs a full rebuild. My question is, after hearing so many problems about steering clutches, of which both of mine seem to work fine, should I tear into them for any reason other than to adjust them from the top? I need some advice on whether I should mess with someting that is working or since the machine is almost 50 years old it may be good preventive medicine.

Hi it's only my opinion but if it is not broken don't fix it My clutches were frozen, I cleaned them measured and put them back in and they work fine . Hope this helps.

If you are going to do a full restoration, you will have them all apart anyhow. If not, the thing I look at is, once it is all painted up, do you ever want to have to take it apart again to fix a steering clutch problem?

I realy don't want to open up a can of worms, but since the tracks will be off and everything on top will be off, might as well have the piece of mind and tear into the steering clutches also. I will let you know how they look inside as I will be busy with the motor first.

IF nothing else, clean everything up, anti-seize everything, and reset the fingers on the pressure plate to original spec.
