440,

I was sort of wondering the same thing. I have two pretty much sacked out on my 420. I just don't have a big press, or I probably would have already tried. The press is on the drawing board. Right behind the 420. Carts and horses and stuff, or chickens and eggs. I never could get any of that quite right.

upper shaft

Found the same problem on our 420. Obtain the upper replacement bearing. start laying in arc welder beads/mig beads roughly to the required dimension and roughly finish with a large flat file. You'll probably find the very outer end of the shaft is not totally worn down and will make a good welding guide. A mic or caliper will help. Approx 2-hours work and polishing machinist's tape finished it to a near perfect fit. good luck

Gary,
Does not take a lot of press, they are not in that tight. I have reinstalled new shafts with a dead blow hammer.
I should have half a dozen new shafts this week sometime.

Lavoy,

That's good to know. I only tapped on it lightly, and backed away. I haven't had time to work on any of it, though. My son needed a shop, so we built that, and now we have some travelling in front of us. I hope to get back to it ernestly in September.

How much are the shafts? Bushings? This is for the upper roller.

Shafts are $50, don't remember for sure, but bushings are $10 or less, seal is the same story.

Lavoy,

Thanks for the response. I don't know, though, when I will again be belly deep in the project. I will, but I just don't know how soon. Might depend on how badly I need another road built.
