420 engine

Post by DJsJD crawler » Sun Aug 07, 2005 11:18 am

Well it actually runs, after sitting for the last 15-20 years. I purchased this tractor almost 1 year ago and have been restoring it ever since, it was in sad shape. Now that it runs I noticed that the exhaust paint is burning off only from the #1 cylinder, the #2 isn't showing any signs of even discoloring the paint. Is this normal or is it a sign of a more serious problem. Thanks

Sounds like the water pump is cavitating or you don't have enough coolant. Maybe an air pocket in the block. It depends on what type of paint you used too. My 420 has been running around 175 on the temp gauge and that's when the outside temps have been 100+.

Is it even firing on the other hole? Pull the plug wire off of the cylinder you know is firing, and see if the engine dies.

I guess I misread that. :o

Are you talking about paint burning off the exhaust manifold?
