will the service manual for a 420 tractor have the same engine and tranny info?

Hi,
One thing to keep in mind is that the factory manuals were intended for service shops. They expected you to have a full set of manuals, so much data needed for the 420 is missing from the 420 manual.
I'm referring to things that were also on the 40 and the 'M', which are found in the 40 and 'M' manuals respectively. They did not repeat themselves in the 420 manual. They just put in the things that were different on the 420's.
Additionally, some things used on the very late 420's are not in the 420 manual either, but in the 430 manual instead. In my case, my 420 is very late production and has the differential style direction reverser, yet there is nothing in the 420 factory manual about it. I have to go to the 430 manual to find that info.
So, I have a late production 420c and to work on everything I have to have four service manuals (M, 40, 420 & 430) and one parts manual (M thru 440).
I mention this just in case you don't find what you need in the 420 manual at some point.
