JD440 direction reverser lock pin missing

Post by Gil » Fri Feb 08, 2008 9:04 pm

I recently bought a JD440IC with a direction reverser that would not latch over into forward. Upon investigation, I found that the lock pin in the forward clutch assembly had “fallen” out of its holder and was therefore not there to hold the adjusting ring in its proper adjustment. My question is this. Does anyone know of any magical way to reinsert the spring and lock pin without disassembling the reverser? I looked at one of my disassembled reversers and it just looks impossible, but I thought if anyone knew of a way to do it, one of you guys would.

You might be able to back the adjusting ring off far enough to insert a new one, but I kind of doubt it.
