four roll vs five roll

four roll vs five roll
just bought a late 1958 420,it has four rolls.why do some have five? and any pros or cons to either one?

The trade off for giving up the added stabilty of 5 rollers is that you can see better forward on a 4 roller.
You really cannot go wrong on either one as for collecting and restoring these antique crawlers.
For instance, it has been 50 years since the 440 IC was introduced.

Hi,
They kept adding rollers (3 to 4 then to 5) to place more support towards the front end for the ever increasing weight of the front mounted equipment (i.e. the weight increase of a model 62 blade vs. the model 61).
If you put a mod 62 blade onto a 4-roller, the machine will wind up light back at the sprockets such that the entier machine takes on a slight 'down angle' every time you lift the blade!
