digging myself a hole

Post by Eric.MacLeod » Wed Apr 16, 2008 7:36 pm

greetings. i have bought a phase 3 420 dozer 133148, from first owner. it stopped turning it will only go back and forth, the motor was just rebuilt,it has never been apart otherwise and only had one new spocket added since new, cost 2000$,with a nice two piston lift manual.angle blade/ now i found another one on criags list for 1000$ # 111376 so i bought it also, it has no reverse, and welded up front idlers from maybe a 350 ,the blade is cheap angle from john deere, the tracks and rails are nice, spockets look new ,all tranny parts were included with it. motor runs fine, now i have 3000$ in two non functioning tractors,/should i strip the cheaper one for parts to fix first one? keep it whole and buy new parts for first one? or sell both and buy one that works? just not sure how much i should invest in a play toy for outback? thank you..

It is personal preference, but I would fix the high serial number 420. If that has a reverser, that is one of not that many 420's made with the clutch type reverser. That reverser did not start until over half way through the phase 3 420 crawlers. That is my favorite 420, had one once, sold it, regretted it ever since.

Hi,

I agree. Fix the later one. It's a much better machine from the sound of things, anyway.

Of course, I may be biased, having a very late Phase-III 420c with reverser and 62 blade. ;)

Later!
