Cylinder head repair

Post by Stretch » Fri May 09, 2008 5:02 am

I just found out the cylinder head on my 2010 loader is cracked in two places. I am not having much luck finding another head.
I am considering having this one repaired by lock stitch.
Has anyone had one repaired before using this method?
If so, how did it do?

If at first you don't succeed, get a bigger hammer.

You didn't mention gas, LP, or diesel? Gas heads for 2010s are easy to find in good shape for $150-$200. Diesels are a different story since so many get ruined by ether starting. I know there are some 2010 diesel engines in tractor scrapyards - but condition unknown since the heads are still bolted to the engines.

If your's IS a diesel - you can expand your search to 1010s also - since 1010 and 2010 diesels use the same head - casting # T17514

In regard to welding your head - all depends what part of the head the crack is in.

go to http://www.locknstitch.com/ this is a professional cast iron repair company. Depending on where your cracks are this is a good repair method. There are also some good cast iron repair shops out there that can weld these, but some just can't be welded (as we found out with the head for our D. The guy we took it to specializes in cas iron repair and is totally stumped on why the weld won't stick.) Anyhow, I think the lock n stich method would be the best. Good Luck!

I believe that Valu-Bilt has 2010 diesel heads (without valves) but they are pretty pricey.
(1) JD Straight 450 crawler dozer with manual outside blade; (2) JD 2010 diesel crawler loaders; (1) JD 2010 diesel dozer with hydraulic 6-way blade; (2) Model 50 backhoe attachments, misc. other construction equipment
