Sounds like everyone in this discussion has had some experience with frozen threads. Unlike some projects which must be taken apart "right now", like my daughter's disc brake calipers, The 420 project can sit until I have the time to play with it. I've been spritzing the bolts with kerosene, or Liquid Wrench preceeded and followed as appropriate with some wire brushing, and a two pound sledge on the big cap screws for a few days now. One of these days soon, I'll have the time to get out my torches and big wrenches to see how things have progressed. I don't have a big enough compressor for an impact wrench - a next investment? I powerwashed the thread area using the narrowest, and most powerful nozzle before I began the oil treatment the other day -I figured what could it hurt if water got into the joints at this point, it may soften things as Lavoy says, and if it forms rust, it should be new and soft.
