JD 1010 Steering clutch adjustment tips

Post by Pjw350 » Sat Jun 07, 2008 1:10 pm

Well we finally got our 1010s starter working again but were having troubles with the left steering clutch. Bought an operators manual and tried to follow the instructions on adjusting the clutch but had no success doing it. Is there any easy to follow tips on adjusting it. The manual is showing a steering control rod with jam nuts but ours seems to be different without the jam nuts. The right steering works perfectly but the left one is very sluggish and hard to operate the machine. After we adjusted everything we made it worse with more steering lever pull but less operation.

Anyone service these machines in Upper Peninsula Michigan? Not sure if we will be able to figure this one out ourselves. Thanks

I'll be in the eastern UP next month and I'd be glad to take a look depending where you are. If you are in the western UP - forget it. Too far out of my way. I'll be up in the Escanaba, Newberry, and Paradise areas.
