steering clutches

Post by 440dozer » Fri Jul 04, 2008 3:26 pm

Lavoy or anybody, I just bought steering clutches and a brake band a few days ago and waiting for them to come in, but my question is on the clutch basket where the steel disk tabs insert into the basket and ride , over time they where grooves ino the metal. can I get a flat bastard and file it back smooth to ensure smooth clutch actuation? I have had some racing four-wheelers with clutch baskets that also did the same thing put new clutches in but they would hang up on the grooves so i took them back out and filed the grooves back to a flat surface and then they worked fine would it work the same for the steering clutch basket on my dozer?

I have had the same problems with other clutches and I did the same thing, filed it smooth and it worked fine, I dont see why it wouldnt work here. I am just rebuilding the steering clutches in my M, but the slots there were really good.

Good luck,
