Frozen bucket pin

Post by tuney443 » Mon Jul 14, 2008 8:05 pm

My one loader bucket hinge pin is not taking grease so I'm trying to pull her out to clean the grease passages.Even with extreme heat and banging,I can't get her to break loose.I presently have 20 ton of hydraulic force on her overnite as I write this.I'm trying to push her out towards the outside of the bucket, which seems logical to me.Does anyone know if there's a slight taper to those pins and I'm pushing the wrong way????

There's no taper, but what usually happens is that the pin gets a pretty deep, sharp edged, "shoulder"worn into it, and it locks up when you try to push it out.
Try moving the bucket slightly so there's no pressure on the pin, back and forth and up and down, to find the true "center" so the the shoulder can slide by.
Of course, it could be something else, too, but I've found the "shoulder" problem to be quite often the reason for the hangups.

Now that I know for sure there's no taper,I'm convinced that it's simply a matter of 49 years of ugly rust preventing it from moving at all. I'll probably just leave it alone now--not worth any more trouble.
