Drive sprocket hitting roller

Post by JOHNSIGY » Mon Aug 04, 2008 5:12 pm

I was using my 440 crawler to move some dirt and when I stopped I did a walk around and I noticed that the drive sprocket on the left side was hitting the lower track roller, not hard just nicking it alittle and I'm kind of lost as to where this movement could be coming from. I thought when I had that side apart last year that things seemed to be pretty good? Does anyone have any ideas as to what has started to go wrong.

Thanks
John

John,
Stick a prybar in one of the sprocket holes and see if you can wiggle the sprocket around. Sounds to me like you have probably lost a bearing in the final.

I've just noticed mine is doing the same thing and I can see that the sprocket is wiggling some.

Drive sprocket hitting roller

Thanks guys it sounds like you have me pointed in the right direction. I did noticed some oil dripping onto the trackes and it looked like it was coming out of the seal behind the sprocket. I will check that bearing play tonight, and thanks again for the help.

If you need to keep using the machine for now and the bearings are loose, you can get some shims and put them under the bearing cap behind the final drive under the transmission until play is taken out. Won't fix worn bearings but it will keep something else from getting wrecked from excessive movement of parts for now.
