New 440IC!

Hello all!I just picked up a CLEAN 440IC dozer today.It's a one owner 1960,runs 100% like new.It was owned by a builder who only used it for light work.NO cracks,welds...Bottom of pins have wear,but the sprockets,rollers,pads are very nice.It has new steering clutches,battery and generator.The blade looks like it pushed feathers!!!It has rear fenders,hydro. track adjusters also.The paint is decent,overall it's a nice clean,tight machine.I paid $2,100- for it.All the ones i looked at were 5-7K and looked whooped compared to this one!The guages and lights even work!What do you guys think of this model?I have an old farm house with 3 acres,pleanty of work for it!

I see people ask many different prices for these machines.What do they actually "sell" for?From a tired parts tractor,to a NICE CLEAN tractor?

the prices are all over, depends on the person buying it I suppose..For instance, a local here in ga put on ebay a 70s JD 450 loader for 5k no reserve, buy it now for 12k...these old 440s can suck 5k from your bank very quick...some people are in hard times for money others are taking advantage of collectors, got to know what to look for, as for your crawler, congrats on you new toy, hope it serves you well , lots of good people and info on this site........Mark Cc

Got it home today and just got off it!!!It runs PERFECT!!!What are my options as far as the chains go?I'm going to use it this year as is,but would like to do something with in the future.

I will tell you one thing, you made out like a bandit.

$5k is probably closer to the right price, some people do not know what things are worth or just want to get it out of the way.

IF the rail height is good, they can be rebushed, although pins and bushings are getting harder to come by.

Roughly 3 1/8" I think.

A little known fact about the 1960 440IC, these particular models will only work well in South Carolina.
When you realize the seriousness of this fact, you will ask for my address.
(Good find, enjoy that little cream puff - probably got feathers stuck in the oil bath.)

If about 3 1/8" is good, I wonder what the wear limit is......
I've got a chain that I think is about worn out.
I know it needs pins and bushings, but I'm not sure if it's worth saving.
How much is a set of P&Bs anyhow? I found a company here locally that will do the labor for both tracks for $1000. Is that a good price?

I look at the thickness of the rail where the rollers ride, and normally I like to see it about 1/2" or more. A dozer crawler can get away with more than a loader crawler as far as thickness due to less weight and stress.
$1000 for labor sounds high to me, I used to charge that for parts and labor. Most likely the shop you talked to has only interlock tooling, so the time required is quite a bit more, and they may be including bolts.

440 gas 602 blade all manuals great shape just went through the tranny and finals rebuilt steering clutches under carriage very good rebushed front idlers times are tough $4000 obo

Lavoy,

I guess I could measure between the ears of the rollers as well as the depth to determine the fit. Should the ends of the pins come in contact with the roller ears? (ever?)
You reminded me that the fellow who quoted it asked if I would be delivering just the chain or the chain with the grousers still attached. Being a cheapo, I told him just the chains.
If I determine the chains are alright, and I remove the grousers and ship both chains to you, how much would you charge to replace all of the Ps&Bs?
I would much rather pay someone who knows what they are doing on this older equipment.
