Need help-rough running and wont stay running
Can't get my 1010 to run smooth, I have change plugs,wires'points, cap, rotor,plugs, and coil and even bought a new zieth carb but runs better with old one. Its seems to me like I have some kind of short. I once had an Alis with a bad igniton switch that had these problems but I omhed everthing out and it's fine. Seems likes it skipping! I had an old timer check it out but he's baffeled too. The only thing I can find is slightly low comprsion in # 1 on a simple turn over it's about 80 psi. This machine runs and sounds good for a few minutes at time. Is it a short where should I look?

Many on here have mentioned fuel inlet screens being clogged in the fuel tank causing idle problems- I'm not sure if that applies to the 1010 but have you looked into that possibility?

Hi Sam;
You should check the connections on the battery. My brothers 1010 was doing the same thing, we went through about the same process you have.
The battery is under the seat, if it isn't secured it may cause the connections to loosen up. Also which type of battery ends are on it. If they are the ones with the two bolts that clamp the cable replace them with the one that are crimped on. If you can find someone that has the end and the tool to put them on.

mailtrain , the crimper's are fairly cheap , I bought one at my local welding supply for around $20 , lugs and battery terminal clamps are not cheap but I have found that I can save money doing them myself and I have made enough money off my friends to pay for the tool and the terminals .
Sam , some shorts are intermittent and are very hard to find . Check your wiring where it passes through bulkheads , where it could be rubbing on the metal . Also with the engine running move the wiring harness around to see if you can duplicate the problem , that has worked for me a time or two . Good luck with finding it . Dan

check for a vaccum leak. Leaking intake gasket etc, carb gasket, anywhere after the carb air intake. Maybe yes, maybe no but worth a try.
