JD 2010C-----Does the steering clutch drive shaft (from the ring and pinion) pull out thru the center of the clutch from the outside of the tractor?

Hi Ron,
You've probably already got it out, but yes it does pull out through the clutch.
You may have to use a slide hammer. It can be a little stiff.
