Throwout bearing carrier

Post by mikes420c » Sat Oct 22, 2005 7:35 pm

Lavoy,
The throw out bearing carrier JD pt.# M 1617T. Had both final drives in the tractor and in adjusting the throwout bearing on one side the bolt hole stripped out. That is one problem. The other problem / question I have is that when you are adjusting the throw out bearing, once you slide the bearing out aginst the fingers of the clutch, you are almost out to the end ( with the 5/16 bolt ) of the part listed in the book as the cam pt. # M 1616T. Looks like the carrier needs to be approx. 3/16 to a 1/4 inch longer. Have you had this type of problem or any ideas what could be wrong or suggestions / modifications?

With a properly adjusted pressure plate installed, I have found that if you set the throwout bearing so that the adjusting bolt is about half way past the casting, you will be right on the money.

Mike

Remember that as the clutches wear the fingers will move towards the center of the crawler. When this happens you'd move the bearing further down the slot.
