430w/76 blade

Post by 430man » Thu Oct 27, 2005 10:53 am

I now am the proud owner of my Dad's JD430 crawler. He bought it new in 1960 and used it as our main farm tractor for years. It was painted all commercial yellow. Still starts like a charm but is showing her age. I plan to have iit painted this coming spring. Have adjusted the steering and track tension. It has a JD 76 blade on it that needs some serious under carriage work. Is there any used ones around or should I plan on taking this off and redoing it?? Thanks! Tim

Are you sure you have a 76 blade? A 76 blade would need to be modified to fit a 430. By modified, I mean with a torch and a welder, not a quick deal.
Not sure of whether you mean you need blade repair, or undercarraige repair.

Thanks for the reply Lavoy,

Yes, it is a model 76 blade. I assume it was modified if it's not a standard fit for the 430. The under carriage is not square anymore to the blade. Can only use the one side of the blade for positioning the blade angle. The other side holes don't line up...and haven't for a long time.

What blade model(s) are options for the 430...and what's the odds of finding one?

Factory blades are #61, #62, and 602. Blades are getting hard to come by. I do know where there is a #62 blade for sale. If interested, let me know, and I will get you the number.
