I am getting ready to replace the gears in my final drive housing and I am not sure what to do about packing the bearings. Does the final drive usually have oil in it that lubricates the bearings or should I go ahead and pack them?

Final drives are oil lubed. A film of oil won't hurt anything, but I would not pack them.

What weight oil are they lubed with and how many quarts do you think I will need?
Thanks

They use 90 wt gear lube. I think about a pint and a half each. Two quart bottles should do it.
