Hello everybody
Just took my head back for the 3rd time
I (we) missed a bolt broke off deep in the water manifold mounting holes
It's raining so I'm out of the pasture
I was cleaning crud and looking at the top of the final drive brakes
I put a long bar in the right side sprocket and felt a resistance then a pop
This is the side that "locked up"when I drove her before I bought the old girl I thought it was the clutch because she would not pull in high gear
I think it's deeper I planned to get into the turning clutchs any way as the tops had bolt broken off and I lost part of one any way
Is there anything I need to know about this procedure
My cat d 2 I had to have a 8 ton puller Will I or do I need anything like this

420c update & ?
You really don't need anything special to pull the final drive. If you can lift with something, the lifting ring shown in the service manual is kind of handy, but I have used a chain as well.
I should have my phone on at least. If you are coming up, let me know and I can check my schedule further.
