A week from today i will have a new to me 440 dozer.

Anything i should be looking at it to make sure i'm not buying a pile of parts?

Check finals for cracks and welds, clutch housings for the same. Check rail height, pin and bushing wear, roller and idler wear, all the usual stuff.

Machines this old are all just piles of parts! Some just move on their own and push dirt!!!

Chuck, I agree that old ones are a pile of parts!
But new ones are also just a pile of parts with some assemblance of the thing called a warranty, which can be somewhat deceiving.
If you do not believe that they are a pile of parts with years of research in designed obsolescence, go price a single part for one of them. And watch how fast some parts wear out. That is the bread & butter of the machine industry.
