MC Final Drive Tear Down

Post by Mr. B » Tue Mar 17, 2009 6:53 pm

Figures Breaking the Track was the easy part. Pulled the cap screws and gently tapped on sproket, looks to be siezed on the dowels. Used a little heat from the rose bud and tapped harder and still no give. Do I need to heat it cherry red and get out the big sledge?. Part of the Collar flange around bearing is missing when drive failed. Is there any out there or can it be welded and rebuilt? I have to go thru the manual and read it agin for splitting the case and pulling the bearings. Have a big puller at work maybe that would help. Thanks for your input. Whish I had a doner machine. Read your letters and need to find a tree to hide it behind from the wife. Mr. B Lorraine NY

Sprocket can require a big hammer and a lot of swings, heat may not help. Hit close to the hub if you can, that may help. Rotate it around as you go too.

I used a small screw jack and some heat with my sprockets, popped right off on the second one. The first one I didn;t use heat, took forever to get it off.

when I worked for a equipment dealer,we loosed up the sprocket bolts a little, little pb blaster around the area and drove the machine back and forth some and the sprocket would loosen up,then we would drive the machine into the shop and go to work.
