1010 track looses power

Post by fixedforever » Sun Mar 22, 2009 6:25 pm

I just finished installing a new 1-wire alternator to replace the bad generator. I ran the machine for a couple hours today, 14volts all day.
The bulldozer is working well, but the left track can some times loose power and stop spinning when pushing hard with the machine. I’m guessing some kind of clutch is wearing out? Does anyone have any information about fixing this?
And I want to put a roll cage on the machine? Is this worth doing, does anyone have any pictures of a 1010 cage?

your left clutch is most likely worn so far that there is all most no pressure on the dics any more you need to take out the steering clutch and add a steel to make up for the wear

Unless you enjoy pulling 1010 finals, just rebuild the clutch, and then you are done.

Yeah, and even if he can't get enough free-play because the pressure plate fingers are too high, you can reach in and adjust those fingers down - without taking anything apart. Just make sure you tie a string to your wrench. Many have been dropped and lost doing this procedure. we used to get a lot of free wrenches we found inside the steering clutch housings.

When my boy was little, he was sitting on the seat of a crawler playing with a wrench. He was digging around the top of the clutch housing with it when I heard this metallic rattling sound. Then I heard this little voice say "Uh oh". He had dropped the wrench he was playing with down into the clutch housing. I looked down in there, and could see the wrench. I asked him if he could get it, and he sticks his little arm down in there and grabs the wrench. I thought to myself, if I could teach him to adjust steering clutches at two years old, I would have it made.
