440 icd with winch

Post by cardoc1975 » Tue Apr 21, 2009 11:18 am

Just bought a late 440 icd with a 64?? all hydraulic blade. Hadn't ran in a couple years. misses at idle untill you run it a while at medium to full throttle. Should I just run it with some fresh fuel and conditioner in it or ??? Also has gearmatic winch on rear. the right side and drum missing from winch. Who has parts to fix? or is it worth fixing? It is a model 8a

Drain all the old gas, maybe kit the carb, do the ignition, and then try it for a while.
I have some parts for the winches, but if you are missing that much, probably not worth fixing.

cardoc,

Lavoy didn't notice that it was an ICD, I would think the same general advice. Drain fuel tank, clean sediment screen, change fuel filter, refill with fresh fuel , bleed filters and injector lines. Then see if it runs better before getting into injectors. do you have the service manual????

running smooth now

Post by cardoc1975 » Fri Apr 24, 2009 4:55 am

I changed all the filters and fluids but still had miss at idle with lots of smoke out of exhaust. But noticed when you gave it throttle it momentarily smoothed out and smoke whent away. So I says HMMMM. I figured the injector might be sticking. I removed the valve cover and cracked the line going to each injector to find which cylinder was missing. I determined it was #2. I pulled the injector and disassembled it. Found nothing so I put it back together and reinstalled it. On reassembly I noticed that the jam nut on the injector rocker arm push rod was loose and backed off. So again I says HMMMM. I started the engine and with it running I adjusted the pushrod about 1/2 a turn on it and that cylinder kicked in and the engine purrs like a kitten again. Dang the good luck!!

I have decided to do away with the partial winch I have on the back. I will trade what I have (that being the winch and mounting brackets with no welds or cracks) for a rear pto set up if any one is interested! I would need rear trans cover and pto stub shaft. My sn is 460442.

Clean out the floatastat, adjust the muffler bearings and grease well, change the innoculator filter, and regap the diesel spark plugs. Also, when changing the hydraulic fluid, be sure to use oil that goes both up and down.

Lavoy, read this joke and thought of your comment above:

A man realized he needed to purchase a hearing aid, but he felt unwilling to spend much money. "How much do they run?" he asked the clerk.

"That depends," said the salesman. "They run from $2.00 to $2,000."

"Let's see the $2.00 model," he said.

The clerk put the device around the man's neck. "You just stick this button in your ear and run this little wire down to your pocket," he instructed.

"How does it work?" the customer asked.

"For $2.00 it doesn't actually function," the salesman replied. "But when people see it on you, they'll talk louder!"
